The Core Clerkship in emergency medicine gives students the opportunity to work alongside emergency department residents and faculty. Our goal is to offer an immersive EM experience with a diverse patient population and pathology. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple is a Level 1 trauma center that treats approximately 75,000 patients per year. Students also will work at our McLane Children’s Hospital with motivated EM trained faculty and pediatric emergency medicine trained faculty. At both locations, students will evaluate and manage patients under faculty and resident supervision.
We offer a curriculum of engaging didactic sessions, ultrasound teaching, simulation, critical care and trauma sessions. Students will also do multiple shifts to get the most exposure and experience in emergency care. Simulation day is high yield and specifically addresses resuscitation of critically ill patients. Students will also get to attend and participate in emergency medicine conferences.
