Welcome incoming nursing and allied health travelers

Welcome to clinical training at Baylor Scott & White Health. We are glad to have you as part of our family.

Contracted/per diem nursing travelers will complete certification check-off and skills. EPIC computer training will be done on another day unless you have used EPIC and can test out. You will receive at least two shifts of unit orientation.

Testing and Certifications

For All Direct Patient Care Nurses

ACCU-CHEK ® Blood Glucose Monitoring System II reference guide 
Watch the video prior to orientation. Testing will be done on orientation day.

The following skills assessments will be performed upon arrival:
  • Alaris pump/PCA
  • Restraint/seclusion review and application (as applicable)
  • Epidural pump training
  • PCA check-off will happen in floor
  • Procedural sedation skill checklist on unit
  • Point of care - RALS testing and Accucheck controls must be run

For Adult ICU

  • Current NIH stroke scale certification
    Register and complete certification A and print certificate
  • Delrium training — visit the website and review the following:
    • Video: Some common sedatives could negatively affect the brain
    • Video: 10 key points tutorial
    • Video: Using the CAM-ICU
    • Video: CAM-ICU demonstration 3 patients
    • Scroll down and review the following documents:

      • CAM-ICU worksheet
      • Attention-Screening Exam Visual – Form A&B
        (You will be required to return demonstration on 3 patients)
    • You will review the ICU webpage when you arrive to review the guidelines/policies and forms
    • You will have to complete the following additional HLC modules:
      • BSWH IV & TPA for Acute Ischemic Stroke
      • S&W Dysphagia screening competency
      • Dysphagia screening (video)

For Adult Medical Surgical Nurses

You will have to complete the following additional HLC modules:

  • S&W Dysphagia screening competency
  • Dysphagia screening (video)

The following is required for stroke unit nurses (4N) only.
