Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS)
The ERAS plan is a clinical pathway developed by Baylor Scott & White Health that helps patients by:
- Allowing them to take part in their own recovery
- Increasing their comfort
- Decreasing their hospital stay
- Preventing dehydration
- Allowing them to eat/drink soon after surgery
- Lowering their body’s reaction to stress
Patients who participate in the ERAS plan typically go home sooner and have fewer complications than those who do not follow the plan.
