Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

We use advanced technology to support the fragile infant’s breathing and many other life-sustaining measures.

Several Baylor Scott & White Health hospitals feature neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Our units are staffed by neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and many other specialized staff who collaborate with other pediatric specialists.

Services

We treat premature newborns as well as full-term newborns diagnosed with serious or life-threatening conditions, including:

  • Respiratory problems
    • Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)
    • Persistent pulmonary hypertension
    • Pneumonia
  • Birth defects, including congenital heart defects
  • Feeding problems

Neonatologists on our staff also work with obstetricians and maternal-fetal medicine specialists before babies are even born to provide a multidisciplinary approach for high-risk mothers and newborns.
