Scholarship Overview
Established in 2018 by the General Surgery residency, the goal of the scholarship was to encourage applicants with an interest in serving our unique community and alleviate some of the financial hardship a student might face while on an away rotation. The Scholarship has now expanded to include an additional nine residency programs. Students may apply that are interested in pursuing a career in one of the following specialties: General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Dermatology. One scholarship award in an amount up to $1,500 will be available for each specialty to complete a rotation at Baylor University Medical Center between the months of August through January.
Who Should Apply
Senior medical students entering the current year’s match that are from LCME or AOA-accredited medical schools within the United States and Puerto Rico but whose home institution is outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex are welcome to apply. Students must first submit a rotation application through the Association of American Medical Colleges' (AAMC) Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) site. Senior students from Texas A&M University School of Medicine that are not assigned to Dallas as their home campus may apply after they have been scheduled to a visiting elective associated with the residency they intend to match into.
